we’ve already been treated to the thunderous rocker and lead single “say please” which had very little if any folk in it at all. yesterday the band posted two more tracks from the forthcoming proper full-length entitled “dear god (sincerely M.O.F)” and “the sandman, the brakeman, and me” respectively. from the sound of the two new songs which are currently streaming at the band’s myspace, this could very well be the oddest collaboration this group of guys have ever been apart of.
dear god (sincerely M.O.F) is a gentle glide of a track filled with an easy electric drum line and a luring harp. jim james dominates the track with his high croon while m. ward and conor oberst make limited appearances.
the sadman, the brakeman, and me is all m. ward, a slow folkish tune that wouldn’t be out of place on his latest solo effort, hold time.
it’ll be interesting to see how this album plays out once the whole thing is available. with such expansive ground covered in just three songs, what else do these guys have in store? i’m excited.
