RIYL: As Cities Burn, So Long Forgotten, Lorien
Few band’s can craft such moody and atmospheric soundscapes like the ones found on The King and The Thief’s debut EP Of Wounds and Blessings. The four piece out of Minneapolis have a polished and progressive sound that is both gradually dynamic and helplessly possessing. The EP’s title track starts off with Dan Mariska’s crystalline high swoon before steadily sky-rocketing to the sky with the help of his backing band’s walls of feedback and climbing tremolo. Their sound is vaguely reminiscent of the late As Cities Burn circa Come Now Sleep, which is a promising comparison if the band can avoid their same fate.
