Last year Deerhunter put out two albums in one, a combined total of 25 songs. Frontman Bradford Cox, the braintrust of Deerhunter has not shyed away from his prolific song output; just last week Deerhunter put out Rainwater Cassette Exchange, a 5 song EP that deserves just as much critical acclaim as Microcastle, et al. The things that make Deerhunter great are all apparent on the EP. Cox flourishes with his trademark harmonies on “Game of Diamonds” in particular, while the whole contains the shoegaze dramatics that they’ve popularized. The EP features the same accessible ground tread on last years release and would no doubt fit right in if they had decided to make Microcastle/Weird Era a few tracks longer.
Rainwater Cassette Exchange is available digitally (you can pick it up from amazon for a meager $4.45) and will see physical release June 9th.
