First Andy Hull, now Kevin Devine. Apparently this cover from KevDev of The Strokes “Someday” was uploaded 11 months ago, I never had a clue. Regardless, I am in strong favor of this trend continuing. Check it out.

Honestly, I didn’t much care for Tokyo Police Club’s 10 covers in 10 days stint when I first heard about it. I’d rather see a band put effort into new material then put out a slew of covers, but their new cover of The Strokes classic “Under Control” instantly changed my mind. The boys from TPC don’t take too much away from the original, adding just enough flair to make for a new and refreshing listen. Have a go!

The Strokes whipped out some psychedelic visuals combo’d with their killer cool to make the video for their new single “Taken For A Fool”, which also happens to be easily the best song off of Angles. They will be releasing the song’s single on July 26th which will feature the song’s live MSG version w/ Elvis Costello that can be seen below.

Watching The Strokes bring the electronica tinged “Games” to Conan made me realize that I don’t think I really like the song. Maybe I’m just grumpy from running on 3 hours of sleep today, but something about Albert jamming out on a synthesizer feels slightly anti-climatic. Regardless, it’s still a solid performance from the best rock band out there.

Last night The Strokes played one of the most anticipated shows of the year, returning to their home and playing the biggest venue in the country, Madison Square Garden. From everything I’ve read/seen/heard it appears that it was probably the best show ever and the greatest night of the thousands of people’s lives that were lucky enough to attend.

The guys played through a 20 song set of songs from all four albums. You can view collected videos from the performance below, including the band playing “Taken For A Fool” with Elvis Costello. I highly recommend the last video for “Take It Or Leave It” which is practically the greatest show closer ever

Julian threw the shades back on for The Strokes late night performance with Jimmy Fallon. I would have liked to see a different song choice, but it was still pretty cool watching Nick throw down some back-up vocals in one of the most experimental songs this group of guys have made. It’s definitely a grower, as is the rest of Angles. To anyone who thinks these guys have lost their burn, watch Valensi knock out the solo with a strokes-esque calm coolness. The Strokes still got it.

Well this is a bit unexpected to be honest. LehtMeJoe collided the pop-hop powerhouse Lupe Fiasco track “The Show Goes On” with one of The Strokes most dance-able tracks in recent memory with “Machu Picchu”. Coupled with some unflattering cuts of speeches from both our former and current president, this one turns out to be quite a winner. Here’s a pretty substandard video for what is in my opinion, probably the weakest track off Angles. Apparently this was put together by Albert. I don’t know why but every time I hear the first verse, I always feel like the chorus of “Life Is Simple In The Moonlight” is about to kick in.

The Strokes appeared on Letterman tonight for a performance of my favorite Angles track “Taken For A Fool”. The self-critical Julian Casablacas nailed it with an uncharacteristically active performance, while the rest of the band followed. Angles is out now.

The good stuff keeps filtering in from SXSW. Even The Strokes stopped by Austin to perform a set. Levi’s has some HQ footage of the event, including two new cuts from Angles and three other infamous classics.

The guys recorded last night with Letterman last night. The performance will be airing tomorrow night, and speculation is that the band performed my personal favorite new song “Taken For A Fool” so make sure to tune in and catch it.

In case you missed it, Angles leaked this past week. While I’ll withhold my fickle judgement for now, the band obviously want you to hear it, since they’ve put up a full stream of the record at their official website. At just ten songs and 34 minutes, it won’t take you too long to burn through the mean n lean fourth full-length from NYC’s best.

The Strokes hit SNL last night… Getting the nod for 2 performances, New York’s finest performed two cuts off of the much-anticipated Angles. I almost had to pinch myself during the opening performance of“Under Cover of Darkness (above), realizing that these guys are finally back. “Life Is Simple In The Moonlight” which is Angles closer was performed second and erased any hesitations I had about this album. The Strokes can do no wrong.

The Strokes dropped their video for “Under Cover of Darkness”. Not sure if they’re in a theatre or some classical castle, but the plot of the video follows your standard run-of-the mill random rock band performance. Still, I’m counting the days eagerly in anticipation for Angles as should you.
