This past Saturday lucky Brits at Reading got to see Glassjaw and some HQ video from the festivals performance has surfaced. I thought I’d throw it up as I still think Coloring Book is a top 5 release of the year right now and that’s saying something. They’ve done it again, those brilliant bastards.

REVIEW // Glassjaw – Coloring Book EP

Glassjaw has long been crowned as one of the forefathers to the modern post-hardcore scene. The band kept their steady-growing cult following on the verge of riot with a near decade wait before releasing Our Colour Green, an EP consisting of five scathing tracks that were reminiscent of the band’s sound pioneered on the iconic 2002′s Worship & Tribute. But we were still eager for more. With rumors of an official full-length in the works, the band dropped a bomb onto their rabid fanbase earlier this week when they started their US Tour and gave away a brand new EP, now known as the Coloring Book EP

Since I got my hands on Coloring Book i’ve struggled to listen to anything else. When I learned of the EP’s release I was tied up and unable to immediately listen. I asked my little brother who shares the same passion for things on the harder side of the spectrum to listen to it. After asking for his initial reaction, his meager response was:

“It’s unlike anything they’ve ever done, but I have a sneaking suspicion you’ll really like it.”

He was supremely correct on both counts. For a band that has been long known for their unrepentant ferocity, Coloring Book is completely void of the pressing screams or pummeling mosh-pit instrumentation they’ve become so well known for. Instead, the EP consists of a water-tight percussion section, slowly layered with jazzy-keys and euphoric atmosphere, coupled with intermittent glitches and lullaby-like interludes. Daryl Palumbo continues to impress as one of the most dynamic frontmen in today’s scene. His distinct delivery showcases the greener side of his pipes ranging from the pleading chorus of “Gold” to the timid and emotionally draining performance on standout track “Daytona White”

I’ll be completely honest, Our Colour Green was solid, but it left me definitely craving more material. I can’t say I feel the same after digesting on Coloring Book. While I certainly will be listening anytime these guys put out something new, this EP has me feeling strangely satisfied after such a draining wait.

New Glassjaw Coloring Book EP Released

Looks like Glassjaw are stickin true to their word with the Coloring Book EP that was released to every single ticket holder at their show last night and will continue to be on their current tour. You can already find it on the web if you gotta good nose on you. In the meantime, stream the 7 minute monster “Stations Of The New Cross” below. Keep the good jams comin, guys!

Glassjaw To Release New EP

It appears my worst fears regarding the alleged new Glassjaw album have come true… If the following is correct. According to Amazon, the band will be releasing an EP entitled Our Color Green (The Singles) on January 1st 2011. The tracklisting will be compromised of five songs that have been released on various 7″ ‘s over the past few months. Check out the tracklisting below.

I’m really feelin all of this new Glassjaw material they’ve been droppin as of late, but I’ll be even more happy when they put it all out on a single release.
