animal collective to release visual album on oddsac

if you weren’t lucky enough to be apart of the lucky few that got to catch animal collectives “visual album” ODDSAC, don’t fret. the new release will drop june 29th, and will feature some currently unknown “bonus material” other than just the film.

nearly a year after merriweather post pavillions release, animal collective have released the video for “brothersport”. they’ve really out done themselves with this one. this is probably the close i’ll ever come to tripping balls on acid. fast forward to the song’s midsection interlude to see what i mean.

Animal Collective To Debut Film At Sundance

Animal Collective’s much awaited and rumored film collaboration with director Danny Perez is finally set in stone. The band will be releasing it at this years Sundance Festival. The film could premiere between January 21-31. Even as a Utah native, I’ve never taken advantage of the festival, but maybe this means that’s a changin this year.

Ever since my good friend Justus introduced me to the this song, sitting by a pool in Vegas earlier this year, it’s always been among my favorite Animal Collective tracks. Previously only available from the BBC sessions they did, Animal Collective revamped it and put it through the studio for their Fall Be Kind EP. The new version is more immediate and to the point, but manages to stay close to it’s spacey origins.

I always though Merriweather Post Pavillion’s lush opener “In The Flowers” didn’t get enough play, being overshadowed by the pop mammoths of “My Girls” and “Summertime Clothes”, but now that they’ve both had their run, AC have put together a new video for the album opener. since it’s non-embeddable, you’ll have to hit it up over at the official animal collective site

Animal Collective Announce New Releases

Animal Collective will be putting out a 10″ single for Merriweather Post Pavilion’s bouncing track “Brother Sport” The vinyl only release will feature the aforementioned live track “Bleeding” and will hit the streets November 9 via Domino.

EDIT It also looks as if the band are planning on releasing a new EP entitled Fall Be Kind on December 8th. Man o man, if What Would I Want Sky finally gets a proper release, I will set a sacrifice at AC’s alter.

EDIT#2 Tracklist confirmed. I’m as giddy as a schoolgirl hyped up on too much sugar.

Animal Collective Remix Phoenix “Love Like a Sunset”

What do you get when you have one of biggest names in modern independent music remix another? Just what you’d expect, solid gold. It seems like half the remixes I get today have one of these two bands involved, but I’m not complaining. Check out this daze driven remix by Animal Collective of Phoenix’s “Love Like a Sunset”. It’s short, sweet and to the point. Avey Tare always wins.

Dappled Cities Cover Animal Collective “My Girls”

Surprisingly, acoustic renditions of “My Girls” is not a rare occurrence. None of the painfully amateur attempts that I’ve seen or heard thus far live up to Dappled Cities rendition, which sounds like it may have taken more than a few minutes and a cheap digital camera to record.

Hopefully this is something I can continue doing, from now on i’ll try to post a comprehensive list of new albums hitting stores every tuesday. heres the (2nd) edition.

poison the well – the tropic rot
for fans that liked the new direction taken by versions, but still love the bands original material, the tropic rot will satisfy. stream the whole album at the bands myspace, but make sure to check out “makeshift clay you” first.

kiss kiss – the meek shall inherit whats left
i never was able to get into kiss kiss’s debut, but the meek shall inherit whats left is sure to be one of the cult classic releases of 2009. if you like the mars volta’s spazzed out blend of prog-rock and high pitched vocals, kiss kiss is the band for you. i dare you to listen to “plague #11″ and not let your jaw drop.

Here in Utah, it’s been pretty rainy up until the last couple of days where we’ve finally been treated to some real summer weather. Whether it’s for riding in the hot summer sun singing along to your favorite songs or kicking back on a warm summer’s night with some friends, it’s hard to find things much better than a good mix of songs to accompany you. The hot weather has prompted me to throw together some of the songs I’ve been digging as of late. I named it after probably my favorite song of all time by Bright Eyes.
